How to Block TikTok and TikTok Lite on Android

Block TikTok, TikTok Lite and sideloaded copies on Android in one rule. Why Digital Wellbeing and TikTok's passcode slip, and a block that survives reinstalls.

On Android, there's more than one TikTok

An iPhone user has one TikTok app. Android users have the main app, TikTok Lite where it's offered, older versions sideloaded from APK sites, the website in Chrome, and TikTok installed as a web app. People who've deleted TikTok often find a different version on their phone a week later. Any block that only names a single app is going to leak.

Whether you're blocking it to protect your sleep, your focus, or your spending on TikTok Shop, the fix has to cover all of these versions at once.

Option 1: Digital Wellbeing and TikTok's settings

  1. Settings → Digital Wellbeing & parental controls → Dashboard → TikTok → App timer: set a daily cap.
  2. In TikTok: Settings and privacy → Screen time → Daily screen time, then set a limit and passcode. Sleep reminders are on the same screen.
  3. Turn on Restricted Mode in TikTok's content preferences to reduce mature videos.

Why these keep failing

  • A Digital Wellbeing timer applies to one app. TikTok Lite, a sideloaded APK and Chrome each need their own, and you can remove any of them without a PIN.
  • TikTok's daily limit is protected by a passcode you set yourself.
  • Clearing the app's data or reinstalling resets TikTok's in-app settings.

Option 2: One NoorI rule for every version of TikTok

Every version of TikTok (main, Lite, sideloaded or web) talks to the same backend. NoorI blocks that backend, so you don't have to chase individual apps.

  1. Enroll the phone with Cloudflare One (Android setup guide) and set its battery usage to Unrestricted.
  2. In Content Policy, create a rule and add TikTok from the Apps tab. It covers tiktok.com, tiktokv.com, tiktokcdn.com, tiktokcdn-us.com and muscdn.com.
  3. Save, then force-stop every TikTok app under Settings → Apps so none of them keeps playing cached video.

App blocking requires Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial). If TikTok is only one of several short-video apps you want gone, the same rule can hold Instagram and YouTube too.

Make it stick: Always-on VPN and Guardian Mode

Under Settings → Network & internet → VPN → Cloudflare One, turn on Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN. This stops the most common Android workaround, which is switching the filter off. Installing a separate VPN app would route around any DNS filter, so read how NoorI handles VPN bypasses.

Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.

When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.

Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.

Frequently asked questions

Does blocking TikTok also block TikTok Lite?

Yes. TikTok Lite uses TikTok's backend domains, so NoorI's TikTok entry blocks it too.

Can I just uninstall TikTok and use Digital Wellbeing?

You can, but nothing stops you reinstalling it, and Digital Wellbeing timers can be removed without a PIN. A network-level block keeps working whatever is installed.

Can I allow TikTok for 20 minutes a day?

NoorI schedules by time of day rather than by minutes used. You can allow TikTok in a fixed window, such as 19:00 to 19:20, and block it the rest of the time.
