How to Block Snapchat on Android Without It Creeping Back

Block Snapchat on your Android phone with a block that survives reinstalls, cloned apps and late-night impulses. Native options, side effects and lock-in.

The "I deleted it, then reinstalled it" cycle

Most people who block Snapchat on Android have already deleted it a few times. It comes back because of one message, one streak, or one late night when the old contacts feel tempting. That cycle is especially risky for anyone using Snapchat to send or receive explicit images. Disappearing messages feel low-risk, but screenshots and screen recorders mean they never really are.

A block that lasts has to keep working through a reinstall, and it can't be something you can undo from the phone itself.

Option 1: Digital Wellbeing

  1. Open Settings → Digital Wellbeing & parental controls → Dashboard (Samsung: Digital Wellbeing and parental controls → App timers).
  2. Tap Snapchat → App timer and set the minimum.
  3. Optionally add Snapchat to Focus mode with a schedule for evenings and nights.

Snapchat has no daily limit of its own for adults, so the phone's tools are all you have built in.

Why it creeps back

  • App timers and Focus mode can be switched off with no PIN on your own account.
  • Reinstalling Snapchat, or cloning it with your phone's dual-app feature, gives you a copy the timer doesn't cover.
  • Snapchat on the web (snapchat.com in a browser) isn't covered by an app timer at all.

Option 2: Block Snapchat with NoorI

  1. Enroll your phone with Cloudflare One (Android setup guide) and set battery usage to Unrestricted.
  2. In Content Policy, create a rule and add Snapchat from the Apps tab, which covers snapchat.com, snap.com and snapkit.com.
  3. Save, then force-stop Snapchat in Settings → Apps → Snapchat.
  4. Over the next day, check the Activity tab for any Snapchat-related domain that still gets through, and add it to the rule as a custom domain if needed.

Because the block is on the network, a reinstall, a cloned app or the browser version all fail in the same way. Blocking named apps needs Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial). Download your Memories from accounts.snapchat.com before you turn it on, because that page will be blocked too.

What else stops working

  • Bitmoji stickers in your keyboard and "Log in with Snapchat" in other apps rely on Snap's domains.
  • Snap Map location sharing stops, so friends who used it to find you will need another way.
  • Notifications may still arrive briefly through Android's push service, but opening them loads nothing. Turn Snapchat notifications off in Android settings for a cleaner break.

Make it stick: Always-on VPN and Guardian Mode

Under Settings → Network & internet → VPN, open Cloudflare One's settings and turn on Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN. If the filter is stopped, the phone goes offline instead of letting Snapchat back in.

Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.

When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.

Blocking Snapchat for a child?

Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.

Frequently asked questions

Does blocking Snapchat delete my account?

No. Your account and friends list stay as they are. You just can't reach Snapchat from that phone. Deleting your account is a separate process on Snapchat's website.

Will a cloned or dual-app copy of Snapchat get through?

No. Every copy of the app connects to the same Snapchat servers, and NoorI blocks those servers for the whole phone.

Can I allow Snapchat only during the day?

Yes. Add a schedule to the NoorI rule so Snapchat is blocked in the evening and overnight, the hours when most impulsive use happens.
