How to Block Snapchat on iPhone (and Break the Streak Habit)

Block Snapchat on iPhone when streaks, Spotlight or late-night messages have taken over. Snapchat has no adult time limit, so here's what does work.

Why adults block Snapchat

Snapchat's hold is different from the endless feeds of TikTok or Instagram. It's built around obligation: streaks you don't want to lose, Snaps waiting to be opened, and a Spotlight tab full of short videos. On top of that, disappearing messages make Snapchat a common channel for sexting and explicit images. For people recovering from compulsive sexual behaviour, it's often the app where relapses actually happen, even when they never visit a porn site.

If that sounds familiar, the goal is distance from the app, with enough friction that you can't open it on impulse at 1 a.m.

Option 1: Screen Time and Snapchat's privacy settings

Snapchat has no built-in daily time limit for adult accounts. Family Center is designed for parents supervising teens. That leaves iPhone Screen Time:

  1. Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit, choose Snapchat, set 1 minute and turn on Block at End of Limit.

To reduce unwanted contact while you still have the app, go to Snapchat's Settings:

  1. Set Contact Me to My Friends.
  2. Turn off Show Me in Quick Add.
  3. Remove contacts that make the app harder to put down.

Why that's not enough

Screen Time's "Ignore Limit" is always one tap away, and on your own phone you usually know the passcode. Privacy settings stop strangers, but they don't stop you messaging someone you already know. Deleting the app tends to last until a friend asks why you broke the streak.

Before you block: save what matters

  1. Export your Memories. Snapchat's account and data-download pages are on snapchat.com, which will be blocked. Request your data at accounts.snapchat.com under My Data first, and wait for the download link.
  2. Tell the people who matter how to reach you instead, through iMessage, WhatsApp or a phone call.
  3. Expect streaks to end. That's part of the point. Most people say the relief arrives within a week.

Option 2: Block Snapchat with NoorI

  1. Enroll your iPhone with the free Cloudflare One app (iPhone setup guide).
  2. In Content Policy, create a rule, open the Apps tab and select Snapchat. That blocks snapchat.com, snap.com and snapkit.com.
  3. Save, swipe Snapchat closed, and reopen it. Snaps won't send or load.
  4. Check the Activity tab over the next day. If anything Snapchat-related still gets through, add that domain to the same rule as a custom domain.

Blocking a specific app requires Pro ($9.99/month, 7-day free trial). Be aware that snapkit.com powers "Log in with Snapchat" and Bitmoji in other apps, so those features stop working as well.

Make it stick: Guardian Mode

Guardian Mode (Pro) adds a second person to the loop. You invite someone you trust, such as a partner, friend, sponsor or accountability buddy, from Settings → Guardian Mode. Once they accept and you switch it on, these changes need their approval: editing or deleting a rule, pausing protection, unlocking your profile, and disconnecting NoorI. Adding a new block never needs approval, because it only makes you safer.

When you ask to unlock, your guardian gets an email. Even if they approve, nothing opens right away. There is a mandatory delay of at least 4 hours (24 hours by default), then a 30-minute window to make changes, then everything locks again by itself. A request your guardian never answers expires after 48 hours. A guardian also can't be removed for the first 2 days after they accept, so you can't invite a second email address you own and quietly delete it.

Set Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Deleting Apps → Don't Allow as well, and give your guardian the passcode, so deleting Cloudflare One isn't a way around the block.

Blocking Snapchat for a child?

Blocking this for a child instead? The same steps work, but a managed child profile with its own rules is a better fit than sharing your account. See setting different rules for different children.

Frequently asked questions

Does Snapchat have a screen time limit for adults?

No. Snapchat's Family Center is for parents supervising teen accounts, and there's no daily limit setting for adults. iPhone Screen Time or a network-level block are the options.

Will my friends know I blocked Snapchat?

Not directly. Your Snaps just stop sending and your streaks end. Your account stays the same.

Can I still log into other apps with Snapchat?

No. "Log in with Snapchat" uses snapkit.com, which is part of the Snapchat block. Switch those apps to email or another sign-in method before blocking.
